Congressman Weldon highlighted his travels and interests in the former Soviet Union for the students. He also spoke about his background as a teacher in the Delaware County public school system and as a volunteer firefighter.
"We were honored the Congressman was able to pay his first visit ever to our school campus,” said Principal Sister V. Louisa Kassarjian. “The children enjoyed meeting their Congressman and hearing about what he does in Washington, and we were pleased with his impressions of our institution."
A Russian studies major and founder of the Duma-Congress study, Congressman Weldon has made U.S. relations with countries of the former Soviet Union a high priority. As a member of the Congressional Armenian Caucus, Congressman Weldon has issued statements commemorating the Armenian Genocide and has supported foreign and humanitarian aid to Armenia.
The Armenian Sisters Academy was established in 1963 by three nuns at the request of an Armenian monsignor in the Philadelphia Archdiocese. The school is dedicated to education while preserving the Armenian language and culture. The day school accommodates students from the Montessori level through the eighth grade.
